Surgery Co-Management in Cambridge, ON

Eye surgery, smoothly coordinated.

Surgery co-management means your optometrist handles the care around a procedure — the assessment beforehand and the follow-up afterward — while a surgeon performs the operation. How it works

How co-management works

One familiar team on either side of your procedure — so nothing falls through the cracks between the exam chair and the operating room.

  1. Consultation & assessment

Dr. Fong reviews your eyes, vision, and goals to discuss whether surgery is a sensible option for you — and which type might fit.

  2. Referral to a surgeon

If surgery is the right path, she refers you to a trusted surgeon and shares your full work-up, so your care continues seamlessly rather than starting over.

  3. The procedure

The surgeon performs the operation at their surgical facility, with your assessment and history already in hand.

  4. Post-operative care with us

You return to Boardwalk for follow-up visits, where Dr. Fong monitors your healing and your vision — close to home, with someone who knows your eyes.

What we co-manage

Procedures we help coordinate

Whether the goal is clearer cataract-free vision or less reliance on glasses, Dr. Fong helps you navigate the options.

  • Cataract surgery

Replacing the eye’s clouded natural lens with a clear implant. We handle the pre-operative assessment and the post-operative follow-up.

  • LASIK & laser vision correction

Reshaping the cornea with a laser to reduce reliance on glasses or contacts for everyday tasks.

  • PRK

A surface-based laser procedure that can be an alternative when LASIK isn’t the best fit for your eyes.

  • Lens-based procedures

Options such as implantable lenses (ICL) or refractive lens exchange, sometimes considered for prescriptions outside the laser range.

Which procedure — if any — is right for you is decided together with your surgeon, based on your eyes and your goals.

Is LASIK right for you?

LASIK can be life-changing, but it isn’t for everyone. A few general factors point toward being a candidate — though only an assessment can say for sure.

  • You’re an adult whose glasses or contact lens prescription has been stable for some time
  • Your eyes are healthy, without conditions that affect healing
  • You’re not pregnant or nursing
  • You have realistic expectations about what surgery can and can’t do

There are limits to the prescriptions laser surgery can treat, and a number of factors decide candidacy. Rather than guess from a list, Dr. Fong does a proper assessment and gives you a straight answer about your options.
